Dead Meat, Living Bread

What up B.L.O.G. fam ... I know it's been a little bit, but...

I MADE IT, HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

Yep, 40 days without meat. Wasn't too tough to be honest ... ok, maybe a little bit ... allow me to bring up some of the highlights:

1) Sports and not eating any meat don't mix. I mean, you watch ESPN, you're going to see an ad for T.G.I. Fridays. And for Applebees. And for Dave and Busters. And let's sprinkle a little bit of Red Lobster in there for good measure...

That wasn't it though...

Of course, there was the issue of covering high school sports. No real problem, right? Just stand on the sidelines, take a few pics, take notes...

...but then there's the fan interaction.

And the fans with their chicken fingers ... burgers ... and even worse, the cooks and patrons deep frying that knew who I was, and thus wanted to give me free food ... oh boy.

I made it, though ... and well, allow me to look back at how I felt when I first thought of going on the no-meat journey...

Yesterday (Thursday, August 16), I started a 40-day period where I'm not going to eat meat. Inspired by famous vegans, a good friend of mine, and a desire to want to adjust my focus, I decided to see how long I could maintain such a diet.

Well ... my focus has been adjusted, my thinking is clearer, and that's somewhat adjusted my Bible Study tactics...

It's just ... for all of the adjustments we make as human beings ... everything we do to make our lives better ... if we say we believe in a higher being, but so often lean on our understanding ... we're pretty much screwed.

To know and to not apply, ha ha ha ... but I'll let one of the kids in my class tell the tale...

(A little background ... young person about 15 caught up in gang activity. Real introspective kid, but of course, when status comes into play, you do whatever you can do to survive...)

"So ... I (got into an argument with a family member), and was about to leave the house ... when I heard this voice ... I think it was God telling me something that you taught us in class ... lean not unto thine own understanding ... and I went back to the house.

"Then I started thinking about other things ... and I basically said to myself, I ain't no thug, man, I ain't no thug..."

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding
